Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu) executive president Moinuddin Khan Badal has blamed the "authoritarian attitude and lack of financial transparency" of JSD president Hasanul Haq Inu for the sudden rift in the party.
He made the allegation at a press conference held in the Parliament Complex yesterday morning. “The main cause of the sudden division in JSD is party president Hasanul Haq Inu himself. Questions have been raised in the party forum on his lack of financial transparency after being given the post of information minister. Besides, he has always taken unilateral decisions regarding party affairs,” said the party lawmaker Badal Khan.
“Our main allegation against Inu is he didn't allow party general secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia to participate in any party activity. A party can't be run this way. We didn’t want to quit the party but were forced to do so,” he added.
A section of leaders quit the party during its Sixth Council Session at Mahanagar Natyamancha in the city on Saturday night. The faction, led by party general secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia and party lawmakers Moinuddin Khan Badal and Nazmul Haque Prodhan, declared a new committee with Ambia and Prodhan as president and general secretary, respectively, at the National Press Club around 11 pm on Saturday. Badal declared the new committee, naming himself as its executive president.
After the announcement, they claimed that they had formed the new committee as Inu and party lawmaker Shirin Akhter had been made JSD president and general secretary, respectively, ignoring the demand for holding elections by secret ballots.
Inu, however, said at a press conference that there was no provision in the party constitution to announce a new committee without a council session. At the same time, he requested the rebel leaders to come back, saying they would be given the right to take decisions for the benefit of the party. Rubbishing his party leaders’ claims, Inu said they are spreading false allegations about “financial irregularities”.
