Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) moved into the final of the Anjan’s Independence Day Hockey Tournament stunning Bangladesh Army by 5-3 in penalty shoot out in the first semifinal yesterday.
The two contending teams slammed home three goals each during the regulation time at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium. Khorshedur Rahman produced two goals for BAF converting two penalty corners, while national forward Puskar Khisa Mimo made the other one from a field goal for BAF during the scheduled time. Milon netted twice, while Maleq slammed the other goal for Army.
BAF, who qualified for the final for the first time, will meet Bangladesh Navy in the final today at 3.10 pm. Both BAF and Navy recruited a number of national players in their line-up, State minister for power and energy Nasrul Hamid Bipu will distribute prizes as chief guest.
Navy had a convincing 6-3 win over BKSP in the second semifinal.
Star forward Krishna Kumar and Mainul Islam banged two goals each for Navy, while Mamunur Rahman Chayan and Sarwar Hossain added one each for Navy. Ashraful Islam sounded the board twice, while Tanjim Ahmed made the other goal for BKSP.
