A Dhaka Court yesterday ordered to send Mahfuza Malek Jasmin, the mother who was accused of killing her two children, to jail after she gave her confessional statement in the double murder.
Earlier, detective Branch of Police produced her before the court informing that she wanted to give her confessional statement before the court. Later she confessed that she alone murdered her children. Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Nabi recorded the statement and ordered to send her to the jail. Nusrat Aman Uroni, 14, and her brother Alvi Aman, 6, were murdered at their Banasree in the capital February 29. Two days after, Jesmin was arrested by RAB. The case was first being investigated by the Rampura Police, later it was handed over to the DB.
UNB adds: Earlier, Mahfuza had been taken on a 5-day remand twice on March 4 and March 9 respectively. Family sources had claimed that the two kids died after having food taken from a Chinese restaurant.
However, the autopsies, conducted by the forensic department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, found injury marks on the throat of Urmi and on that of Alvi and in his one leg.
During primary interrogation, Mahfuza had also confessed that she herself killed the two children.
Briefing reporters at the Rab headquarters on March 3, its director (media) Mufti Mahmood Khan said Mahfuza Malek during interrogation said she strangulated her daughter and son to death with a scarf as she was worried over their education and future.
