A Dhaka court yesterday placed assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Shamim Reza of Bangshal Police Station on a five-day remand in connection with shooting an employee of local cable operator in the capital on Friday.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Pranab Kumar passed the order after Khilgaon police produced him before the court and sought 10 day's remand for him.
ASI Shamim was arrested from his residence at Nandipara in the capital on Friday for shooting AL Amin, an employee of a cable TV agency. The victim filed a case with the Khilgaon Police Station against Shamim.
When Al Amin went to the residence of ASI Shamim to collect bill around 11:30am, Shamim locked into an altercation with him over the bill. At one stage, Shamim opened fire on Al-Amin, leaving him injured.
Hearing the sound of the firing, local people rushed in and cordoned off Shamim’s house. On information, police from Khilgoan Police Station rushed to the spot and arrested the ASI. Al-Amin was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
