Experts at an seminar on water in the city have expressed their concern over shrinking of surface water for drinking purpose and stressed on immediate measures to save the situation. Addressing the seminar on drinking water organized jointly by National Environmental Controls Limited Bangladesh, US-based Coch and Singapore-based Flagship at a city hotel on Saturday night, they put emphasis on installation of environment treatment plant and usings electrical coagulation system-ECR to reduce water contamination and reusing of rainwater.
The speakers said everyday water contamination by industrial waste is causing pollution of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater). This form of environmental degradation occurs when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds.
As a result drinking water level is going lower. Although government asked businesses to set Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), they are not paying any attention to it, they added.
The seminar was informed that the Environmental Controls Limited-NEC imports the ECR machine made by Coch Company from Singapore Flagship.
The Flagship ecosystem technology has been introduced in five countries. Of them, at least 20 garments in Bangladesh are using the eco-friendly system, it also informed. The speaker said that the ECR technology saves the downslide of surface water level and which is also economy.
BGMEA president Atiqul Islam, director general of Directorate of Environment Rois Uddin Mondal, FBCCI vice president Saiful Islam Mohiuddin, BKMEA vice president Aslam Sani, Mansur Ahmed, former leader Fazlul Haque, NEC Bangladesh representative Harun or Rashid, environmentalist Iqbal Habib and NEC managing adviser Gim Salverman.
