Six hurt in Pirojpur

Six people were injured in separate pre-polls violence in Mathbaria and Nesarabad upazilas yesterday. A supporter of an independent chairman candidate of Haltagulishakhali union in Mathbaria upazila was hacked by the supporters of Awami League (AL) candidate yesterday afternoon. Injured Zakir Hossain, 45, has been admitted in Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Independent candidate of the union Harun-Or-Rashid alleged that Zakir was attacked and injured by supporters of AL candidate Riazul Islam Jhono at his home in Tiarkhali village at about 1.30 pm yesterday. He was first taken to Mathbaria health complex and later shifted to Barisal Medical College Hospital after his condition deteriorated.
Four supporters of BNP chairman candidate were also injured in a pre-poll violence in Atghorkuriana union of Nesarabad upazila yesterday morning. BNP candidate Jakir Hossain alleged that supporters of Awami League candidate Shekhor Kumar Sikder attacked him and his supporters near Kuriana Bazaar when they were going to his election camp at Mahamudkathi at about 11.30 am. Four of his supporters were injured and a motorbike was vandalised. Of them, Rasel and Sumon were admitted to Nesarabad health complex.
Refuting the allegation AL candidate Shekhor alleged that on the contrary, BNP candidates supporters suddenly attack his election camp at the bazaar and vandalised furniture. Shohel, one of his supporters, was injured in the attack, he claimed. However, Munirul Islam Munir, OC of Nesarabad police station, said there was no report of any violence in his area.
