Seminar on digital innovation held at UIU
A seminar on ‘Digital Innovation Challenge for Women, 2016’ was held yesterday at United International University (UIU) jointly organised by UIU Career Counseling Centre and Women in Digital Bangladesh, says a press release.
Prof M. Rezwan Khan, Vice-chancellor, United International University presided over the ceremonies whileObaidul Quader, Minister, Ministry of Rood Transport and Bridges was present as the chief guest and Mrs Selima Ahmad, President, Bangladesh Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Shameem Ahsan, President, Bangladesh Association of Software & Information Services (BASIS), Dr Yasmeen Haque, Professor- Department of Physics, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, AKM. Fahim Mashroor, CEO, Bdjob.com and Abul Khair Patowary, chief adviser, Women in Digital were present as the special guests.
Minister Obaidul Quader stressed the need for equal rights of men and women across all political parties in the country. Women’s role in every sector should be recognised. He also added that for women empowerment men’s mindset towards women needs to be changed.     
 Prof M Rezwan Khan, Vice-chancellor of the university said the main objective of this event to inspire women empowerment through technology & build women networking.

KU to observe Katka Tragedy Day today

KHULNA: Khulna University (KU) will observe the mourning day today (Sunday) on the occasion of Katka Tragedy.
On March 13 in 2004, nine students of Architecture Discipline of Khulna University and two students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) drowned in the Bay of Bengal near Katka in Sunderbans while they bathing during the picnic.
To mark the day, KU authorities have chalked out a daylong programme at the campus.
The programme includes wearing of black badges, placing of floral wreaths at the Katka memorial, a monument built at the campus in memory of slain students, mourning procession, Doa mahfil, feeding of orphans, condolence meeting, candle lighting in the evening.
The nine students are Arnaj Rifat Rupa, Md. Mahmudur Rahman, Maksumul Aziz Mostaji, Abdullah-el-Baki, Kazi Mueed bin Wali, Kauser Ahmed Khan, Munadil Raihan bin Mahbub, Md. Ashrafuzzaman and Md. Touhidul Inam. Saimul and Shakil were the students of BUET who also met their tragic death in the same incident on the same day.

Experience sharing programme held

An experience sharing programme titled “What we have seen and learnt staying one month in the village” was held at Gono Bishwabidyalay, Savar in the capital yesterday, says a press release.
The programme was organised by the first year students of Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College (GSVMC) and Physiotherapy students of Gonobishwabidyalay who recently completed a month’s trip in rural areas to gain firsthand experience about our rural healthcare system.
Dr Bushra binte Alam, senior health specialist of the World Bank was present as the chief guest while Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, economist and former Adviser, caretaker government as special discussant and Dr Valeria De Oliveria Cruz, team leader (Health system), World Health Organisation, Benjir Ahmed, former MP were present as special guest.
Professor Mesbahuddin Ahmad, Vice- chancellor of Gono Bishwabidyalay chaired the session. Prof Laila Parveen Banu, Principal of Gonoshasthaya Samajvittik Medical College gave welcome speech.
