Schoolgirl drowns in Sylhet
SYLHET: A schoolgirl drowned in a pond at Sonapur village in Biswanath upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Ayesha Begum, a class X student of Gobindaganj High School in Chhatak upazila and daughter of Shukur Ali, a resident of Sonapur village in Biswanath upazila.
Locals said Ayesha slipped into water and drowned while bathing in the pond near her house at about 2:30pm. Later, locals found her floating body in the pond and recovered it. Union Parishad member Ekhlas confirmed the incident.

2 held with yaba tablets in Ctg
CHITTAGONG: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police in separate drives arrested two persons along with 10,800 yaba tablets from different areas of the city yesterday.
Acting on tip-off, RAB conducted a drive in Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) area and nabbed a drug trader with 9,800 yaba tablets. The arrestee was identified as named Md Ganu Miah, 50. On the other hand, Bakalia police conducted a drive in Shah Amanat Bridge area of the city and arrested a truck helper with 1,000 yaba tablets. The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Shamiul Haq, 28.

Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Bakalia police station, said the arrestee was going to Narayanganj from Cox’s Bazar to sell the yaba tablets.

Man held with 43 bottles of phensidyl
SYLHET: Police in a drive arrested a man along with 43 bottles of Indian phensidyl syrup near a restaurant in Babna point area of Dakhshin Surma upazila on Saturday afternoon.
The arrestee was identified as Abdus Shukur, a resident of Aambari village of Zakiganj upazila.
On secret information, police conducted a drive in the area around 5.30pm and arrested the man along with 43 bottles of phensidyl, said sub-inspector Ashraful, officer-in-charge of Dakhshin Surma police station. Shukur had long been involved in drug trading, added SI.

Man held with lakh foreign currencies
Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport arrested a Bangkok-bound passenger with foreign currencies, worth around Tk17.80 lakh, on Saturday night.
Deputy Commissioner (Customs) Ruhul Amin said that the arrested passenger Anisur Rahman, 45, was scheduled to go to Bangkok by an aircraft of Bangkok Airlines at midnight.
When he was entering departure hall through gate no-4, presence of foreign currencies was detected when his luggage was scanned at about 8:45 pm.
Searching the luggage, various foreign currencies, including 20,000 Saudi Riyals, 67, 500 UAE Dirhams and 1500 Qatar Riyals were found, DC (Customs) Ruhul Amin said.
Anisur Rahman will be handed over to Airport thana police for legal actions.
