ADR is an excellent step to cut case backlog, say speakers

RAJSHAHI: Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is an epoch-making step of the government towards reducing backlog of cases, said Law and Justice Secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Md Johirul Haque, reports BSS.
He said this while addressing a mass-awareness related seminar titled "ADR Application in Government Legal Aid Activities: Success and Prospects" at Circuit House Conference hall in Rajshahi city on Friday as the chief guest.
District Legal Aid Committee organised the seminar. Law Secretary Johirul Haque said: "We have to come forward with the negotiation mentality through the ADR. The conventional attitude is being changed towards checking domestic violence and women repression".
Apart from the government, the role of the development agencies and the NGOs is also very important in this regard. "We can be optimistic of achieving success in this respect if the relevant acts are implemented," he added.
With Senior District and Session’s Judge and Chairman of District Legal Aid Committee Kabita Khanom in the chair, City Session Judge Altaf Hossain, Tribunal Judges Mansur Alam and KM Shahid Ahmed, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mijanur Rahman, Chief Judicial Magistrate Al Asad Asifuzzaman, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Md Shamsuddin, Superintendent of Police Nisharul Arif and Senior Jail Super Shafiqul Islam Khan also spoke.
The chief guest underscored the need for concerned efforts of all government and non-government organisations to provide greater access to justice to the poor, marginalised and socially excluded litigants.
He viewed infusing dynamism into the legal aid services could be an effective means of attaining the cherished goal. Only the judiciary or any other single organisation is not capable of ensuring legal aid to the underprivileged people.
"We are pledged bound to make the legal aid services more effective, expedited and fruitful with cooperation of quarters especially media personnel," he asserted.
