The ‘Save the Sundarbans’ long march of the National Committee to Protect Oil-Gas, Natural Resources and Power-Port reached Jessore yesterday afternoon, reports UNB. On the way, demonstrators held two rallies in Magura and Jhenidah protesting the government’s decision to build a 1320 MW coal-fired power plant at Rampal near the Sundarbans. However, the local administration did not allow them to bring out any rally in Jessore on security grounds. The march will begin its journey for Khulna on Saturday morning. The four-day long march towards the Sundarbans began from the capital on Thursday in protest against the government's move to set up the power plant at Rampal.
