Less than half of the selected fast bowlers overcame the hurdle of the first elimination round of the Robi Fast Bowler Hunt campaign held at the BCB-National Cricket Academy (NCA) ground yesterday.
Jointly organised by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Robi Axiata Limited (RAL) powered by Robi's Super Fast Internet, the shortlist has been done at the end of the elimination round following a thorough screening process.
Although a total of 20 fast bowlers are scheduled to keep for the second elimination round, the capable 23 bowlers have been short listed out of 51, which were sorted out from around 15,000 candidates at 16 different venues across the country in the first phase.
“Considering several indicators including speed, legal bowling action, accuracy, run-up, height and physical fitness in mind, we have made the shortlist. Hopefully we will get some quality fast bowlers in days to come,” said Sarwar Imran, coach of the Robi Fast Bowler Hunt programme after the elimination round.
Imran was assisted by Mahbub Ali Zaki as the assistant coach of the talent hunt campaign, where three women’s fast bowlers including BKSP’s Sobhana Mustari (Rangpur), Puja Chakrabarti (Gopalganj) and Rupa Roy (Khulna) alongside two physically-challenged men’s fast bowlers including Golam Rabbani (Nilphamari) and Monir Hossain (Gaibandha) have also been selected.
The fast bowling talent hunt initiative will come to an end with the declaration of the top 10 fast bowlers at the second and last elimination round of the programme to be held at the same ground on March 13.
It is learnt that the top 10 fast-bowlers, who will finally be selected from the talent hunt programme, will be groomed under the BCB High Performance (HP) Programme.
Along with that, the eligible bowlers will get scholarship and educational facilities from Robi, the second largest mobile phone operator in Bangladesh in terms of revenue, with 28.4 million subscribers, as of September 2015.
