Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque yesterday afternoon said militant activity in the country would be dealt with iron hand. He said this while addressing a progrrame at Metropolitan Shooting Club at Dampara Police Line in the city. We should take great care so that militancy could not raise its ugly head like Pakistan and Afghanistan. “We have to find out the reason why the saboteurs of Sathkania and Lohagara upazilas in Chittagong went into hibernation. The education and transport sectors of the country were worst affected during the 92 days of sabotage,” said the IGP. Haque also affirmed his firm stance on showing zero tolerance towards drug dealers. Earlier on the same day, Shahidul Haque inaugurating RF Police Plaza at Nandan Kanan area in the city. “All should work for the peace and welfare of the country so that there will be no violence like Pakistan, Afghanistan. We cannot let our country turn into a militant state,” said the police chief. “Burning innocent people alive cannot be termed as politics. We have seen many movements before 1971. This year after January 5, we saw how the innocent people were held hostage and killed in the name of waging movement. The violent movement left 19 policemen killed and 300 policemen injured critically. A person with good sense and conscience will not brook such barbaric acts of terrorism,” said the IGP, adding that the politicians have to abide by the laws of the country. The IGP also asked the members of police to give the best service to the people. The inaugural ceremony was addressed by Additional Inspector General Mainur Rahman Chowdhury, DIG Chittagong (Range) Shafiqul Islam, CMP Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mondal, among others. RF Police Plaza, the largest seven-storied market for electronics goods in the country was constructed by RF Builders.
