KHULNA: Bangladesh Beter is set to complete construction of Bangabandhu Complex at its regional office compound in this southwestern city by the yearend, nearly two decades after the project was launched, officials said yesterday, reports BSS. They said the complex was being developed on 16,000 square feet area inside the Betar Bhaban compound to be featured with a huge monument, a sculpture of the father of the nation, an amphitheatre, an exhibition gallery, a fountain and a green patch and garden. Terracotta and marble stones will be used to build the structures under the project worth 8 crore being overseen by the information ministry. Betar officials said the project was taken under the initiative of the then regional director of the state-run radio Shamsur Ali Biswas in 1997 but fund constraints upset the construction works while the project was virtually abandoned during the subsequent BNP-led four-party coalition government. State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda, a lawmaker elected from the region, in 2009 brought to notice of parliament the state of the project, prompting authorities to take fresh initiatives to complete the project.
