�Community-based disaster managements can reduce losses�

RANGPUR:  Efficient community-based emergency post natural disaster response management systems can substantially reduce the extent of losses of lives and property from natural disasters like earthquake, reports BSS.
The opinion came at a discussion jointly organised by Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) and 'Pollishree' at RCC Hall Room in observance of the National Disaster Preparedness Day- 2016 on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier, volunteers of Ward Disaster Management Committees (WDMC) from Ward Nos 18, 24, 26 and 30 demonstrated a mock drill at Zila School ground on conducting emergency rescue and relief operations during and post natural disaster periods.
Chief Executive Officer of RCC Alhaj Ruhul Amin Khan attended the discussion as the chief guest with its Secretary Fazlul Kabir in the chair.
The National Alliance for Risk Reduction & Response Initiatives (NARRI) Consortium has been cooperating in implementing the project to institutionalise Community-based Disaster Management Preparedness (CBDP) Model at the ward levels. Advocacy & Communication Officer of 'Pollishree' Rezaul Karim Reza narrated the comprehensive government programmes to reduce risks of natural disasters through ensuring proper early preparedness, training and managements.
