33 personalities to be honoured

In memory of noted lyricist Masud Karim, a commemorative discussion will be held today at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, where 33 veteran personalities of last three years will be honoured. Organised by Masud Karim Memorial Foundation, State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim will attend the programme as chief guest. In the category of music singers, Ferdousi Rahman, Shahnaz Rahmatullah, Sabina Yasmin, Runa Laila, Syed Abdul Hadi, Mohammad Abdul Jabbar, Khurshid Alam, Maksud, Rumana Islam, composers Subal Das, Alauddin Ali, Alam Khan, lyricists Khandakar Nurul Alam, Gazi Mazharul Anwar, S M Hedayet will be honoured for the year 2014, where Chashi Nazrul Islam will be honoured in the category of Film and Kazi Anwar in writing.
On the other hand, singers Kaderi Kibria, MA Shoaib and Srikanto Acharya will be honoured for the year 2015. This year, Subir Nandi, Kumar Biswajit, Timir Nandi, Shubhro Dev, Fouzia Khan, Farida Parvin, Shaheen Samad and Shakila Zafar will be honoured in the category of music. Besides, Dolly Iqbal (Dance), Sheikh Saadi Khan (Composer), Hasan Motiur Rahman and Safat Khaiyam (Lyricist), and Saiful Wadud Helal (Documentary) will also be honoured this year.
Masud Karim is a Bangladeshi lyricist. He is the recipient of Bangladesh National Film Awards. He was a lyricist of Bangladesh from the 1960s till the 2000s, and wrote more than 1500 songs in 300 films. Masud Karim debuted with the mythological film ‘Rupban’ (1965). The film contained nearly 30 songs, all written by Karim and sung by Ferdousi Rahman. The film was a commercial success. The songs included ‘Shono Shono Daima Go’, ‘Shono Tejal’, ‘Baro Diner Shishu Rahim Go’, ‘Merona Meron’, which still receive airplay. He wrote the lyrics ‘Ei Duniya Ekhon To Aar’ for the film ‘Dui Poisar Alta’ (1981), which composed by Alauddin Ali and sung by Mitali Mukherjee. For this song, Karim won the National Film Award for Best Lyrics in 1982.
