Bangladesh has been elected as a host country for arranging “World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT)-2021, the largest event of the world in information technology, reports BSS.
At a meeting, World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) yesterday selected Bangladesh to host the WICT in 2021 as the country bagged its majority votes defeating Australia, the ICT Division sources said.
Secretary General of WITSA Dr James H Poisant, President of Australian Information Industry Association Rob Fitzpatrick and Chairman of National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) R Chandra Shekhaor and representatives of different countries, among others, attended the meeting.
The ICT division sources said the WITSA accepted the proposal of Bangladesh to host World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in 2021 considering its remarkable success in the past seven years.
In his instant reaction, Prime Minister’s ICT Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy said, “It is very good news for Bangladesh and it is great achievement.”
Bangladesh will get the opportunity for branding its ICT sector through WICT, he added.
State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak said, “Bangladesh has been selected as a host country for arranging the WICT mega ICT event due to the valuable efforts of Sajeeb Wazed Joy.”
