JS body recommends ensuring manpower export to Malaysia

BSS

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Expatriates’ Welfare and Oversees Employment Ministry yesterday came up with a recommendation for quick initiatives to ensure manpower export to Malaysia in line with the recent government-to-government plus (G2G+) agreement, reports BSS.
The recommendation came at the 11th meeting of the committee with its chairman Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun in the chair, said an official handout.
Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur signed an agreement last month in the city to resume the employment of Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia, but it turned stalled immediately as the Malaysian government apparently backtracked from its original stance and imposed new conditions without further clarifications.
The standing committee, however, expressed happiness over Bangladesh’s attainment of a formal status to become a ‘source country’ like few other countries, from where workers would be recruited to get employment under G2G mechanism in Malaysia’s different sectors.
It was informed in the meeting that steps are underway to establish one Technical Training Centre (TTC) at each Upazila in order to expand the scope of training for overseas employment under Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET).
Recommendation was also made to establish a specialised insurance company to ensure the insurance of all workers before they leave Bangladesh for overseas employment.
Regarding the export of women manpower, the committee made a recommendation to encourage female workers to get alternative decent jobs abroad, without fully depending on the employment for domestic workers only.  The safety and security of female workers in abroad also needs to be taken into account, the committee observed.
Committee members Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam, BSC, Mohammad Shahabuddin, Mohammad Israfil Alam, Mohammad Ayen Uddin and Mahjabin Morshed, among others, attended the meeting.
