Third convocation of CUET March 14
CHITTAGONG: The third convocation of the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) will be held on March 14. President of the country and chancellor of the university Abdul Hamid is expected to preside over the convocation to be held at CUET central ground at 2.30pm.
Former adviser to the caretaker government and Vice-Chancellor of Asia Pacific University Professor Dr Jamilur Reza Chowdhury will address the convocation as the convocation speaker and University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan will attend as special guest.
Prof Dr Mohammad Moshiul Hoque, president of the Information and Publicity Sub-Committee of CUET 3rd Convocation -2016, disclosed this at a press conference at Chittagong Press Club yesterday.
Prof Dr Moshiul said a total of 1603 students are expected to collect their certificates on successful completion of their studies at the university on the convocation day.
The convocation would begin with a colourful rally and would be followed by a reunion programme of the former graduates.
CUET campus sources said the university authority has completed all preparations to hold the convocation, the biggest programme to confer degrees, in a befitting manner.
Steps have also been taken for ensuring security on the campus. Additional number of law-enforcing members has been deployed at different points covering the programme venue.

NSU holds seminar on Padma Bridge
The Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering of North South University (NSU) organised a seminar on ‘Padma Bridge: An Engineering Challenge’ was held on NSU campus in the capital on Wednesday, says a press release.
Major Gen Abu Sayeed Md Masud, Project Coordinator, Padma Bridge, was the keynote speaker.
He highlighted major work areas and work forces in his speech. Azim Uddin Ahmed, member, Board of Trustees (BOT) was the chief guest and Atiqul Islam, vice-chancellor, NSU chaired the session.
In this session, Md Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan, president, IEB, Mohiuzzaman Quazi, senior transport engineer, World Bank, were guest speakers and they also shared few words on various conceptions regarding Padma Bridge.
Then, ‘Tech Giants Seminar’ was held on the campus where Sajid Rahman, chief executive officer, Telenor Health at Telenor Group, and Hashmi Rafsanjani, Country Marketing Consultant, Bangladesh at Google were guest speaker.

Orientation held at KUET

KHULNA: The orientation programme for the students of the first year honours courses of BSc Engineering and BURP courses of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) under the academic year 2015-16 was held at the auditorium of KUET in the city yesterday.
KUET Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Muhammed Alamgir welcomed the students in the university and advised the new students should groom themselves as competent citizens by engaging in extra curricular and creative activities with their regular academic feat.
Dean of faculty of Civil Engineering Md Mahbub Alam, dean of faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Osman Ghani, dean of faculty of Mechanical Engineering Tarapado Bhowmik, director of Students’ Welfare Md Sobhan Mian spoke on the occasion. Registrar of KUET Md Abdur Rouf delivered address of welcome.
About 872 newly admitted students of KUET attended the programme. Students organised a cultural function which enthralled the audience.
