A tribunal here yesterday sentenced a man to10 years’ imprisonment for killing his wife Taslim Hossain Trina in the capital’s Uttara area in August 2013, reports UNB.
The convict, Atif Amin Haque, 31, son of Mohammad Mominul Haque, a resident of Uttara sector no 11, was also fined Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer six months more jail.
Judge Sahed Nur of Speedy Trial Tribunal -1 handed down the verdict.
According to prosecution, Taslima, a teacher of English Department of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology ( SMUCT) was tortured to death by her husband Atif on August 6, 2013.
Victim’s father filed a case against Atif with Uttara Paschim Police Station on the following day. Later, Police arrested Atif.
On November 12, 2013, police submitted a chargesheet accusing Atif.
After examining the records and 19 witnesses the tribunal handed down the verdict.
