The Election Commission (EC) is set to hold the maiden elections to the reserved (women) seats of 377 Upazila Parishads across the country today. A total of 2,536 candidates will vie for 1,266 posts in the elections.
Of these, a total of 301 women candidates, however, have already been elected unopposed.
Besides, there will be no votes in 13 seats as no candidates submit any nominations. The EC sources said the election to these seats will be held after fesh announcement of polls schedule.
Now a total of 2,158 candidates will contest for 965 posts in the elections to the reserved seats for women.
