Three people of ethnic minority community were shot dead and six more remain missing as unidentified men attacked a house in remote Gollahchari of Bhaibonchari under Longadu Upazila of the district yesterday. A house was also torched during the attack that took place on early Sunday.
Locals identified the deceased as Juddha Moni Chakma, 30, son of Phul Moni Chakma of Bhaibonchhara in Longadu, Rupmoy Chakma, 28, son of Rushta Chakma of Kattli under Longadu and Sumon Chakma, 35, sond of Narayan Chakma of Sabekkong Union under Naniarchar Upazila of the district.
Mikal Chakma, the regional coordinator of Chittagong Hill Tracts of the United People Democratic Front (UPDF), blamed armed terrorists of PCJSS backed by Santu Larma for the attack and the murders.
Meanwhile, Sajib Chakma, the central assistant press and information secretary of Parbattya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS), claimed that a factional clash of the UPDF was the real cause behind the attack.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of Rangamati Sayeed Tariqul Hasan said, “We received information about the incident through local sources and have sent a rescue team to the spot. The location is far from the police station and in a remote place.”
After the police team collects evidence of the incident, we will take further steps over the murders, the police SP added.
