BAUTA elections today

The election for the executive committee of Bangladesh Agricultural University Teachers’ Association (BAUTA) in Mymensingh will be held today.
Meanwhile, 22 candidates from two panels have been nominated against the 11 posts of the committee.
Professor Md Solayman Ali Fakir of Crop Botany department and Professor Md Saidur Rahman of Agricultural Economics department will vie for the president and general secretary post respectively from the Awami League -based teachers’ platform of BAU ‘Gonotantrik Shikkhok Forum’.
On the other hand Prof Md Iddris Miah of Fisheries Management department and Prof MdAbul Hashem of Animal Science department will contest for the president and general secretary post respectively from the BNP -backed teachers’ platform ‘Sonali Dal’.
A total 552 teachers will cast their votes in the elections which will be held at the university club from 8am to 2pm.
Running president of BAUTA Prof Khandokar Shariful Islam will act as the chief election commissioner whereas Prof Md Rafiqul Islam Sarder and Prof Md Mosharraf Hossain will act as the assistant election commissioners.

CU economist dept celebrates golden jubilee

CHITTAGONG: Chittagong University (CU) Economics Department celebrated its golden jubilee on CU campus on Saturday.
CU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury inaugurated the day-long programme while CU Social Science Faculty Dean Abul Hossain was in the chair.
Country’s eminent economist Rehman Shobhan, Bangladesh University Grant Commission (UGC) Prof Moinul Hossain, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq, United Commercial Bank Managing Director Mohammad Ali, CU Economics department Prof Abdul Mannan, Camilla University VC Ali Asraf, Independent University Pro-VC Israt Kamal Khan addressed the programme among others.
A colourful cultural programme was held at the closing session of the
programme.

CU annual sports contest held
CHITTAGONG: A two-day annual sports competition of Chittagong University (CU) ended at central playground of the university yesterday.  CU Vice Chancellor Professor Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury on Sunday inaugurated the competition by releasing balloon and festoons while Md Rashed Bin Amin Chowdhury, sub-director of the physical department, presided over the event. Md Ali Asgor Chowdhury, proctor of CU, deans of the University, Senate and syndicate members, president and general secretary of the teachers association, provost of the halls were present, at the contest, among others. Around 500 students participated in the contest, held at the central playground of the university, said sources of CU. The prize giving ceremony was also held at the end of the contest.
