Pharmacies in Rajbari sadar upazila stopped selling medicines yesterday when they enforced an indefinite strike protesting against an action by a mobile court that had fined a shop Tk one lakh and tortured its owner. Drug Traders Association formed a human chain in front of Rajbari Press Club yesterday. They also brought out a procession from the spot. A mobile court formed by Rajbari district administration in a drive fined the shop ‘Medicine Corner’ Tk one lakh for selling date-expired drug. The drug traders announced that all medicine shops would remain closed for indefinite period if the mobile court does not return the realised money. When contacted with Magistrate Shatarupa Talukder said Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Islam Khan felt dehydration on Saturday night. Family members bought saline from a local medicine shop and Rafiqul took it. But after consuming the saline the DC’s condition deteriorated and he was admitted into hospital. His condition deteriorated for taking date-expired oral saline, said hospital sources. Later, district administration conducted a drive in the shop and fined the shop owner Tk one lakh for selling date-expired drug.
