Days into the gang rape of female police constable allegedly by her ex-husband and his five associates in the capital’s Khilgoan area, the former wife of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police in the city has accused him of raping her, after making false promises of remarriage. The accused was identified as ASI Mosharaf Hossain of Mohammadpur police station. The victim claimed that she had married Hossain last year, but he divorced her earlier this year, following a dispute. After promising remarriage, he had sex with her on May 27, May 28, and June 8, in the city. However, he did not remarry her, the victim said. ASI Sentu Das of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital
(DMCH) police camp said, “The woman was admitted to the One Stop Crisis Centre of the DMCH around 2.30pm, where she levelled these allegations.” SI Shomir of Mohammadpur police station, however, told The Independent that he was unaware of such an incident. No case has been filed in this connection yet, he added.
In another development, state minister for home affairs, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, yesterday said action would be taken against the rapists of the woman police constable, who was allegedly violated in the capital on Thursday.
“This is a heinous crime… the policeman responsible will be tried under the police law. If the accused police official is found guilty, he will receive proper punishment,” he warned. The state minister was talking to reporters, after a programme at Radisson Hotel. Meanwhile, the forensic test on the constable who was allegedly gang-raped by her ex-husband, ASI Kolinur, and his five accomplices, in the city’s Khilgaon area on Thursday, was completed yesterday at DMCH.
Bilkis Begum, coordinator of the One Stop Crisis Centre of DMCH, told reporters that evidence of sexual intercourse has been found on a preliminary basis. “The final result of the tests would be known after two or three days.”
Referring to the victim’s physical condition, she said the policewoman was suffering from some sort of mental disorder. “As she is talking incoherently, we have decided to consult a physician tomorrow, in connection with her mental illness,” Bilkis Begum disclosed. Meanwhile, inspector Zia Mostafiz Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Khilgaon police station, said they were making efforts to arrest ASI Kolinur and his associates, as soon as possible. Sources in the Special Security and Protection Battalion (SPBN) said though ASI Kolinur was transferred to the SPBN on June 12, he has not joined it yet. SPBN officials could not confirm whether he would join or not.
Replying to another question, a top SPBN official said, on condition of anonymity, that as the accused has not joined the SPBN, it would not conduct an inquiry into the allegation of rape.
