Indo-Bangla ties based on win-win formula

Says Indian high commissioner
Indo-Bangla ties based on ‘win-win’ formula

Indo-Bangla bilateral cooperation is based on a ‘win-win’ formula for both countries based on a mutuality of interests, said Harsh Shringla, High Commissioner of India in Dhaka. Addressing the inaugural session of the 7th round of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Dialogue at a city hotel yesterday he said, we believe that peace and security of the region, which is essential for economic growth and development, is our shared responsibility.
“Settled issues of maritime and land boundaries between our countries will facilitate effective border management. And, we need to sustain and enhance the current levels of cooperation to serve our common interests,” he said.
“In many ways, 2015 was a watershed year in our bilateral relations. The conclusion of the Land Boundary Agreement during the visit of the Prime Minister of India was truly historic. The issues of un-demarcated boundary, enclaves and adverse possessions were resolved forever. The settlement of the land boundary, as also the maritime boundary, ushered in greater amity between the people of our two countries and opened up the possibility of initiating new and hitherto unparalleled cooperation in keeping with the true potentials of our relationship” he added.
He mentioned that both the countries had decided to attach the highest priority to keeping the strong momentum in our bilateral relations going.
This is reflected in an unprecedented series of high-level exchanges aimed at taking forward our cooperation in areas like trade and investment, economy, power and energy, connectivity, culture and people-to-people contacts, he added.
“India and Bangladesh today host a record number of bilateral institutional mechanisms that monitor and facilitate progress in all areas of cooperation”.
“Since the last Dialogue, both countries have made rapid progress in the implementation of decisions taken during the visit of Prime Minister Modi to Dhaka.  I hope this Dialogue will focus on identifying priority areas where we can work together for our mutual benefit. In this respect, the theme of the 7th round of the Dialogue ‘Ground Rules of a New Paradigm’ in India-Bangladesh relations is very appropriate”.
He also said, in the area of Trade and Investment, India has provided full access to Bangladesh to its market of 1.3 billion people by extending ‘Duty Free’ facilities to Bangladesh on its export items.
