They were arrested from different areas of Gazipur. The two have been identified as Mintu Miah, 32, son of Joynal Abedin of Rakhaliarchala village, in Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur district, and Lablu Mollah, alias Naimur Rahman, alias Imon, 29, son of Ruhul Amin of Bodadanga village, in Paikgachha upazila of Khulna district. After the incident, seven employees of Money Plant Link Pvt Limited and two security guards of the ATM booth were taken to the police station for interrogation. On information provided by them, Mintu Miah was arrested from Rakhaliarchala village of Kaliakoir yesterday morning. After questioning Mintu, the police arrested Lablu Miah from the Boardbazar area of Gazipur city. Both confessed to having committed the crime.
The said they went to Rajendrapur National Park with the stolen money and shared it between themselves. Later, they threw away two trunks, in which the money was kept, in the Mymensingh area. However, the police are yet to recover the stolen money and trace other criminals involved. The police said three others were seen carrying sticks in a video footage of a CCTV camera seized from the ATM booth. But they are yet to be identified. The chief executive officer of Money Plant Link Pvt Limited, Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Sayed Abjalul Abedin, filed an FIR with Kaliakoir police station on Thursday night against some unidentified persons. It was said that the amount stolen was Tk. 1,83,21,500. Police sources said the statements of the seven employees of Money Plant Link were being verified. At this point of time, the police are not ruling out their involvement in the incident. What is surprising is that the security guards did not use their firearms during the robbery. The police expect to arrest all those involved very soon. The robbery took place when employees of Money Plant Link were putting the money in the booth.
