RU to open five new departments
RAJSHAHI:  Rajshahi University (RU) is going to open five new departments soon to meet the pressing demand of time.
The departments are-- Horticulture, Microbiology, Food and Nutrition, Soil Science and Industrial Science. Bangladesh University Grants Commission has already given approval of launching of the new departments, said Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Pro-vice- chancellor of RU, on Thursday evening. He was addressing a function for distributing gold medals and prizes among the winners of indoor game competition-2015 on Matiher Hall premises of the university as the chief guest. Professor Chowdhury said a Tk 338-crore project is now in the pipeline for multipurpose development of RU. As part of the development activities, two ten-storied students' dormitories, one for male and other for female, will be built. Proposed name of the dormitories are 'Sheikh Hasina' and 'Shaheed Qamaruzzaman', he told the audience.
The project has the provision of a 20-storied academic building. He said the present administration is putting in its best to transform the university into a center of excellence in the near future. On the occasion, three students, Araf Khan of Accounting and Information
Management, Hadiuzzaman of Arabic and Musabbir Ahmed of Zoology, were given gold medals for their outstanding results. RU Treasurer Prof Sayen Uddin, Hall Provost Prof Jahangir Alam Soud and House Tutor Sadiqul Islam also spoke on the occasion.
Seminar on world economy at BUBT
A seminar titled ‘How the World Economy is Transforming itself under Globalization’ was held at Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) on Saturday, says a press release.
Professor Zafar Uddin Ahmed, president of the Academy for Global Business Advancement (AGBA), USA and Professor of Marketing and International Business and Director, College of Business Faculty Research Centre of the Kuwait University, was the key note speaker.
Md Abu Saleh, vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology, delivered introductory speech at the Seminar. Stressing the importance of the seminar, he stated that the seminar will help develop the skills of the Faculty members of the university. AFM Sarwar Kamal, chairman of BUBT Trust, emphasized the need of globalization at the Seminar.
 ‘MapUp Dhaka 2016’ held at DIU
Google Educator Group (GEG), Dhaka South organised a programme on ‘MapUp Dhaka 2016’ at Daffodil International University (DIU).  A group of students from different institutions took part to improve the places they know and love on Google Maps by using Google Map Maker.
The MapUp programme focused on the map of a neighborhood, region, or even for a particular feature such as hiking trails or cycling routes. It also helped the participants to learn to use Google Map Maker, bring together experienced Mappers, and create awareness about using such Google tools. The leaders of GEG Dhaka South Md Nadir Bin Ali, Co-Leader Shah Al Mamun, Amena Hasan Ana and Mahabub Hasan Munna, Regional Lead, Google Mapper Bangladesh were present in the Mapup Programme. They helped the participants to know more on Google and assisted them in their work.
