Draft cyber security law has been prepared keeping provision to take stern measures against cyber crimes

The government is planning to enact cyber security law to ensure security of the government services and protect its own IT system, reports BSS.
Disclosing this at the concluding day’s session of the 7-day training on “Information Security- Business Continuity and Service Management” in the capital, ICT Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder said the draft cyber security law has been prepared keeping provision to take stringent measures against cyber crimes.
The draft cyber security law is still under scrutiny and will be sent to the relevant authorities soon for further scrutiny, he said.
Sikder said a magnificent development has taken place in the journey towards ‘Digital Bangladesh’. Online service delivery has been introduced replacing the cumbersome traditional system. “But the matter of fact is that our IT system and cyberspace are not protected,” he added.
In a bid to build capacity to run e- Government, the World Bank financed Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Project of Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) organised training programme for the officials of different ministries, organizations, departments and directorates.
Chaired by LICT Project Director Md Rezaul Karim, the function was also addressed by General Manager of India’s Open Group James de Raeve and Deputy Project Director of LICT and its e-Government Component Team Leader Tarique M Barkatullah.
The ICT secretary said barring legal measures, the government has been providing training to the government officials at home and abroad on cyber security to deal with the cyber security issue.
He called upon the government officials to transmit and share the knowledge they have gathered through the training on cyber security.
Tarique said the LICT project has taken initiative to impart quality IT and cyber security training to about 2500
officers of ministries, departments and directorates to improve public sector efficiency and security of government services. Later, the secretary distributed certificates among 22 government officials who successfully completed the training programme.
