The mighty India are aware of what Bangladesh could do at their home den on their given day. Even though they kept a clean slate on their way to move into the final of the Asia Cup, including a crushing 45-run win over Bangladesh, they couldn’t afford to have relaxed. “I’m not getting rid of myself so soon. Over the years, Bangladesh have developed a lot. It will be a good final,” India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni said after the match against UAE. “As of now there are no injury concerns.”
Dhoni led the first Indian team to be beaten to Bangladesh in a bilateral ODI series, merely nine months ago but they are a top ranked team in T20 cricket. They justified the ranking by winning the last nine matches off 10. On paper they will go into the final as hot favourite but the electrifying crowd in Mirpur Stadium will test the nerve of Dhoni and Co. And when the adorable Bangladesh fans sensed a victory, they will be roaring like no other ever has seen or heard in the past. The India’s opponent therefore will be the capacity crowd of Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium also.
But for Indian team, pressure of crowd shouldn’t be a factor. They are used to take the pressure of 100 billion people always. What MS Dhoni would want is to ensure that his players to fire like the past four matches.
MS Dhoni said: “You need 15 minutes to learn a bad habit but about 5-10 games to learn something good. It was important for the spare players to push the selectors and the skipper and show that they are good enough. And they did their best in the opportunity they got. It’s fantastic from our point of view. The batting might not change, maybe one here and there, but it’s important to get the bowlers a few games in case an injury happens. You can always look to improve.” Others could do with some batting too but now everyone in the top 7-8 has got enough chances to bat and I feel less responsibility coming in at no. 7 or 8. Any team that plays at home is difficult to beat (talking about Bangladesh). But we have played some dominating cricket and have to come up with another big performance against Bangladesh. They have improved a lot and are a very good team.”
But the concerting factor will be Shikhar Dhawan’s form at the top of the order.
Answering the media in the post-match press conference Dhoni said: “Think it was important for Dhawan to spend some time in the middle and not look to get too many runs too soon.”
