The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) and farmers are expecting a bumper production of wheat in the district during the current season.
A total of 15,000 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation this season in five upazilas of the district with a production target of 45,000 tonnes of wheat.
DAE office sources said of the total, Prodip variety have been cultivated on 7,000 hectares of land, Bijoy variety on 4,000 hectares, Sotapdi variety on 2,500 and Bari-25 variety on 1,500 hectares of land.
Deputy Director of DAE M Asraf Ali said wheat cultivation has increased this year compared to the previous year due to reduced cost of cultivation.
On the other hand, farmers are not getting profit from Boro cultivation. As such, the department has given advice to the farmers for cultivating Rabi crops, he added.
