Students of Beripotol Government Primary School of Dhanbari upazila in Tangail have been suffering as many of them have to attend classes under the open sky. The government primary school runs short of necessary number of classrooms.
According to sources, the school was established in 1937. Number of students dropped to 176 from 300 in the school over the past few years. Shortage of classrooms and teachers is the major problem of the school.
Sources said there are only two classrooms for the students. The two classrooms are also being used for the classes of pre-primary students. As a result, at least half of the students have to attend classes under open sky braving sunshine, wind, cold in winter and rain. Many students are being affected with different diseases, said Mohi Uddin, a guardian of village Beripotol. He said the Prime Minister is supplying digital contents to the primary schools. But these are not being used for lack of class rooms. Many guardians dare not send their children to the school during the winter season. The guardians are highly disappointed as their kids are deprived of proper education. The post of headmaster is lying vacant for a long time, a matter that concerns the guardians.
Acting headmaster Md Mustafa Zaman, admitting manifold problems of the school said the authorities have been informed of the problems. The teachers have been discharging duties in adverse environment.
Mahbub Zaman, Upazila Primary Education Officer, said construction of a new building in Beripotol Government Primary school is urgently needed. “We have recommended construction a building to the higher authorities. I hope that the problem will be solved.”
Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Dhanbari Shameemara Rini said the authorities have been informed of the necessity of school building. The building will be constructed on a priority basis after getting allocation, she said.
