Gazprom, a Russian gas company, and Petrobangla will soon conduct exploration of gas in five new places in Bangladesh, outgoing Russian Ambassador to Dhaka Alexander A Nikolaev said yesterday.
During a meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam at his office, the envoy also said that both the Russian and Bangladeshi companies have already carried out exploration of gas wells in 10 places, according to a foreign ministry press release.
The envoy also said that some Russian airliners are in discussions with the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh to resume Dhaka-Moscow direct air connectivity.
The direct air connectivity between the two countries will enhance the cordial relations between the two countries through expansion of economic, cultural and educational ties, he said.
During the meet, the state minister requested Moscow to grant duty-free access to Bangladeshi products to the Russian market.
