Due legal process is underway with regards to 26 Bangladesh nationals, who were deported from Singapore on charge of radicalisation, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam told non-resident Singaporean High Commissioner Chan Heng Wing yesterday.
While discussing the issue during a meeting at the foreign ministry, the state minister reiterated government’s firm policy of ‘zero tolerance’ towards all forms of terrorism and violent extremism. He informed the high commissioner that Bangladesh took the matter seriously and due legal process are well in course following thorough investigation.

Shahriar affirmed that Bangladeshi nationals living in Singapore are law-abiding and peace-loving, and that Bangladesh would not allow few derailed people to taint the image of the community.
He also appreciated the confidence building measures undertaken by the Singapore government immediately after the deportation.
The high commissioner of Singapore expressed satisfaction at the action taken by government of Bangladesh and hoped that both countries will continue to work together to combat any form of terrorism in the days ahead.
He also hailed the contribution of Bangladeshi workers in the development of Singapore and ensured that misdeeds of a few would not be able to overshadow the positive image of the community and particularly ‘this isolated case’ will not lead to discrimination against Bangladeshi community.
The state minister requested the Singapore government through the visiting high commissioner to ease and speed up the visa processing for Bangladeshi citizens.
