Rakibul smashes double ton for Central Zone

South trail North by 49 runs

Rakibul Hasan smashed the first double century of the Bangladesh Cricket league (BCL) 4th edition for Walton Central Zone at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS) in Cox’s Bazar yesterday.
Riding on Rakibul’s 228, Central Zone piled up 588 for eight before being declared their first innings against Islami Bank Central Zone.
Resuming the second day at 321-4, Central Zone added 267 at the cost of the fallen four wickets. Rakibul Hasan, who cracked his second double century in his first class cricket career, scored another 109 runs with overnight 119 to complete his credible double ton. For Barisal Division this middle-order batsman, earlier, had crunched triple (313) century against Sylhet Division at Fatullah in 2007.
En route to his double, the right-handed batsman shared a comprehensive 240-run fifth wicket stand with Tanvir Haider. Rakibul plundered 19 fours as many as two sixes in his patient 338-ball 228-run innings.  
Just five balls later, Tanvir, who added 100 runs with his overnight 10 to make his second century in the current league, was removed by Tasamul Haque. Rangpur-born lad clubbed half-dozen fours as well as one six to strike his 169-ball 110 before being dismissed. He earlier made 129 against the same opponent in Bogra.
Mohammad Shahid remained unbeaten on 18, while Al-Amin was on eight not out. Rahatul Ferdous took three wickets, while Tasamul Haque and Mohammad Saifuddin claimed two wickets each for East Zone.
In reply, Islami Bank East Zone made 142-2 in 36 overs with Mominul Haque top-scoring 89. Imtiaz Hossain remained at stumps on 37. Tasamul Haque was on 9 not out.
Elsewhere, Prime Bank South Zone have a deficit of just 49 runs to take their lead against BCB North Zone at the SKICS Academy Ground in Cox’s Bazar.
North Zone managed to add just 30 runs with overnight 266. Muktar Ali struck the highest score for North resuming at 43. He clobbered eight boundaries and two sixes in 84-ball 64.
Sohag Gazi snapped up three, while Abdur Razzak and Taibur Rahman picked up two wickets apiece for South Zone.
In response to BCB North Zone’s first innings total of 296, South Zone put on 247-4 thanks to Anamul Haque (70), Shahriar Nafees (52) and Tushar Imran (60 not out).
South Zone made a solid start as they scored 118 through their opening pair of Anamul Haque and Shahriar Nafees. Just seven runs later, Anamul also followed the path of Nafees, who chipped in with 52. The opener faced 116 to score 70 that studded with four fours and two sixes.
Later, Tushar Imran hit 60-run with Mosaddek Hossain for the fourth wicket partnership, which crossed 200-run mark. Mosaddek finally fell for 27.
Tushar Imran struck 60 off 118 with eight fours so far to be remained unbeaten with Taibur Rahman making 12.
Saqlain Sajib and Sanzamul Islam  snared brace each for BCB North Zone.
