Bangladesh will have high-level participation in the upcoming 4th China-South Asia (CSA) Exposition and at a regional import-export fair in Kunming, the capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, Dhaka's envoy in Beijing said Tuesday at a programme to promote the summer events.
“Bangladesh’s trade with China is expanding at an exponential level, but it is still below potential,” Ambassador Fazlul Karim said in a brief speech at the programme, held at a hotel in the Chinese capital.
According to a promotional video highlighting previous CSA expos, Bangladesh's imports including jute goods and garments to China have increased more than 200 fold since the first exposition in 2013, when Bangladesh was the ‘theme country'.
China is Bangladesh’s largest trading partner. However, trade imbalance largely favours China. “The Kunming fair provides a platform to showcase our products and services,” Karim said. “Due to its proximity (to Bangladesh), Kunming can help us enter the Chinese market, which is difficult to get into. It will also help us mingle among other businesspeople from South and Southeast Asia,” he added.
The 4th CSA Expo will be held alongside the 24th China Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair from June 12 to 17 at the international exhibition centre located by picturesque Dianchi Lake.
The Maldives will be the theme country at this year's expo, while Vietnam has been chosen as the ‘country of honour’at the fair, which will be participated by 39 countries from Asia, Africa and Europe.
Introducing activities to be held during the events, Chen Hao, governor of Yunnan Province, said South Asian heads of governments will be invited to address the 11th China-South Asia (CSA) Business Forum. Besides, experts and scholars will convene to discuss regional trade, scientific innovations and financial services at the CSA Think Tank Forum, while the China-South Asia-Southeast Asia TV Art Show will be held to share resources and explore channels for exchanges.
“It is our hope that more promotions with more fruitful outcomes will be launched at the 4th CSA Expo to achieve more pragmatic cooperation,” the governor said in a keynote speech.
