A four-day ‘Jibanananda Utsav’ ended at Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city on Tuesday night.
The programme was arranged to observe 117th birth anniversary of the great Bengali Poet Jibanananda Das. Barisal district administration organised the festival at Ashwini Kumar Hall and Poet Jibanananda Memorial Hall at Kobi Jibanananda Das Sarak in the city. The four-day programmes, included discussion, painting competition, recitation, book fair and cultural functions.
Gazi Md Saifuzaman, deputy commissioner of Barisal, presided over the closing sessions while Divisional Commissioner of Barisal Md Gaus, addressed the programme as chief guest.
The programme was addressed, by Prof M Ziaul Haque, chairman of Barisal education board; Prof Sharmin Aktar, Prof Mohshin Uddin, principle of SBMC Vaskar Saha and Henri Swapan, among others.
Later, a prizes were distributed among the winners of different competitions.
Journalist SM Iqbal and Prof Tapankar Chakrabarti received ‘Jibananda Award 2016’ in the festival. Divisional Commissioner Md Gaus distributed crest among the awardees. In the programme, nine writers of the city, whose books were published in Amar Ekushey Boi Mela in the capital this year, were also accorded reception in the programme.
The speakers said poems of Jibanananda are now part of the Bengali consciousness and he is the pre-eminent greatest modern and best loved Bengali poet after Tagore.
