Muggers shot a trader and looted 100 bhoris of gold ornaments, worth about Tk 50 lakh, from him in Dinbondhu lane area of the city on Tuesday night.
The injured was named Md Mirazul Haque, owner of Haque jewelers, at Girja Moholla of the city.
Victim Miraz said after closing his shop, he was going home by an auto-rickshaw with the 100 grams of gold ornaments around 9:30pm on Tuesday.
When he reached Bangladesh Bank, Barisal branch area at Dinbondhu Sen lane, five armed muggers riding two motor cycles intercepted his way and at gun point was trying to snatch the bag, containing the ornaments, from him. Muggers shot at his leg as he resisted them and fled the spot. Miraz was admitted to the Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital. High officials of Barisal metropolitan police visited the spot.
DC south of BMP Golam Abdur Rauf Khan said police informed the facts to all the check posts of the city and even the police post of the nearest district. Police also started drives to arrest the criminals and to recover the gold, he adds. None was arrested till filing the report.
