�Darpane Sharat Shashi� to be staged at Mohila Samity today

Theatre troupe Desh Natak will stage its much-anticipated play ‘Darpane Sharat Shashi’ at the Mohila Samiti Mancha today, as a part of the month-long theatre festival titled ‘Bhanga-Gora Natya Utsab’. Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, in association with Ministry of Cultural Affairs, has organised the festival at the Dr Nilima Ibrahim auditorium – popularly known as Mahila Samity Mancha with the slogan ‘Manche Natok Dekhun, Oitihasik Mohila Samity Manche Asun’.
Written by Manoj Mitra, the play ‘Darpane Sharat Shashi’ has been directed by eminent actor Aly Zaker. Set against the backdrop of the early 20th century in India, the play portrays a very straight forward and a general idea reflecting the society. It shows the valiant role of women, who turned as a theatre actress from a prostitute. Manaroma, the former prostitute, helped save many unfortunate women from the agents of darkness and rehabilitated them in society.
The probable casts of the play include Shamsul Alam, Ishrat Nishat, Mamun Chowdhury Ripon, Rokibul Hasan, Nasir Uddin Sheikh, Bonnya Mirza, Touhid Mitul, Anisur Rahman Biplob, Ehsanul Aziz Babu, Kazi Mizan and others.
To note, beginning on February 28, the festival will conclude on March 31.
However, Mahila Samity Mancha was opened in 1973 with a show of Nagarik Natya Sampraday’s play ‘Baki Itihas’. In order to build a new building with modern facilities and an audience-friendly seating arrangement, the auditorium has been dismantled in 2011.
