In February alone this year, nearly 465 people were killed and 2,562 others injured due to human rights violations, said a monthly report of the Bangladesh Society for the Enforcement of Human Rights (BSEHR). The condition of human rights in the county is worrisome, according to the rights body. Through the month, killing and torture of children was the centre of discussion. Number of incidents of death due to domestic violence was relatively high, it observed. Data from the research cell of BSEHR reveals that killing and torture of children was higher than in the recent months. In February, 24 children were killed and 40 others tortured. Family disputes claimed the lives of 28 people and six women died due to dowry harassment, while seven women and nine minors were raped, and three of the women were killed.
Last month, 13 people were killed in so-called crossfires, while 36 committed suicide, of which 29 were women. The BSEHR report stated these suicidal incidents occurred mainly due to family disputes, failed love affairs and sexual assault.
