Railway Minister Mujibul Haq yesterday said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman not only presented the country’s independence but he also introduced Bangladesh to the world community, reports BSS.
“Apart from a few anti-liberation thugs, the whole nation under the leadership of Bangabandhu fought and brought independence of the country and that’s why the Bangalee nation embraced him as their closest one, affectionately decorating him as Father of the Nation and Bangabandhu,” he said. The minister, also a senior leader of the ruling Awami League, said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion held in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum on Road-32 at Dhanmondi in the capital.
As part of its month-long celebration of birth anniversary of Bangabandhu (March 17), the Central Bangabandhu Shishu-Kishore Mela organised the discussion which was followed by a rally of tiny-tots and placing of homage in front of the museum. President of the organisation Shirin Akhter Manju presided over the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Awami League presidium member Satish Chandra Roy, vice-chancellor of Jagannath University Prof Dr Mizanur Rahman, Dhaka City Awami League organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad, a leader of teachers’ association Shahjahan Alam Saju and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana.
Speaking at the discussion as the main speaker, Prof Mizanur Rahman said a secular Bangladesh based on the ideologies of Bangabandhu should be established for sustainable development of the country. At the outset of the programme, leaders of the organisation, the discussants and pupils from different schools in the capital placed wreaths and flower petals at the portrait of Bangabandhu at the venue.
