The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has asked its Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) to conduct countrywide drive against tax dodgers, reports BSS.
While reviewing the progress in revenue collection at the regular monthly meeting on Monday, the revenue authorities asked the CIC to conduct a nationwide drive against tax evaders, taking necessary assistance from other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders.
In the meeting held at the NBR headquarters in the capital city, NBR Chairman Md Nojibur Rahman told the tax officials that they should take a tough stand against those who are evading taxes and involved in money laundering and illegal cross-border trade.
He advised the CIC, customs intelligence and VAT intelligence to work jointly with other law enforcers to take effective steps against the wrongdoers.
At the meeting, the tax authorities also decided that the activities of the central anti-smuggling task force should be accelerated further, conducting regular anti-smuggling drive.
The taskforce under the leadership of divisional commissioners would also take effective steps to check smuggling at the regional level, the meeting was told.
