Bangladesh coach Chandika Hathurusingha backed his batsman to come up with terms ahead of the big occasion as the match against Pakistan is going to be crucial in determining Bangladesh’s place in the final.
The hosts would include opener Tamim Iqbal who would have to play an international match straight, without having any considerable amount of practice. Moreover his most important batsman in the middle order Musfiqur Rahim wasn’t in the form. The openers also remain shaky but the good thing is Shakib’s return to the form while Sabbir Rahman has been going through his best time.
Hathurusingha thought Tamim’s inclusion will give the batting line up an impetus because of the vast experience that he possessed.
“Its huge because last one year he has scored 1000 international runs, he has been our best at the top, coming someone of that caliber always helps,” he said about Tamim but didn’t think it’s a concern that he would play an international straightway.
He expected that Mushfiqur Rahim would rise on the occasion as he believed the batsman is good enough to make a huge comeback.
The coach remained upbeat that this Bangladesh would create more history and is capable to touch the area which still remains untouched.
“I mean we have done lately many things we have never done before, we have never beaten Sri Lanka before in T20 so we have done that. So we are going to achieve what we have never achieved. The main thing for us is to do what we have never done. So there’s always hope.”
So the hope of the final is on, according to the coach who is considered as the mastermind behind Bangladesh’s huge success off late.
The form of Shakib and Mahmudulah Riyad made the coach more confident about the chances.
“I think Shakib is doing really well, like last game if you notice his partnership with Sabbir was key and his wicket-- he took Shehan Jayasuriya. He bowled cleverly bowled wide and then took a brilliant catch to get Mathews out. So those are key match turning moments for me,”
“I am very happy with Sabbir other than that and Riyad is doing great jobs for us while others are chipping in. It’s very hard for anyone to score consistently in T20 cricket. You can do mistakes. But it’s important to make sure that some batsmen score in every match.”
In the ICC ranking Bangladesh might lie in No. 10 position but that doesn’t make Hathrusingha down.
“Our record says it’s not good that’s why we are number ten, if you see the performance lately we are getting better.”
He however indicated that they wouldn’t field four pacers in the next game, specially when the wickets started favouring the batsman.
“I think wicket is also getting hard. You can’t expect it to be fresh after playing so many matches back to back. Whether it’s helping us I don’t know. It helped us when the wicket was quick as well, last time we played Pakistan on quick wickets. We have to adjust no matter what. We can’t complain.”
But Bangladesh’s success will be relied on how they could deal with a rampant Mohammad Amir and co.
“They all can bowl 145km. Amir is a real good talent isn’t it? He is like probably one of the brightest talent in world cricket you have seen lately. We know what he can do and we have plans to reduce his impact in the game,” he said, adding, “Surviving against anyone is not key to success for anything. We have to handle the way we can handle.”
