Pakistan aim to come out all guns blazing against Bangladesh today after the two mainstays of batting--Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal found their form.
Those two seasoned campaigners put a record 114-run fourth wicket partnership against United Arab Emirates in the last match to guide the side secure a convincing seven-wicket victory from a tricky 17 for three. The partnership not only helped them find the much-needed form but also gave the misfiring top order a reason to be inspired.
The team’s bowling coach Azhar Mahmood said, the partnership that the two experienced players put amid a pressurized situation inspired the other batsmen, going into the crucial match against Bangladesh.
“The morale is really good after the victory yesterday, the way Malik and Umar finished the game for Pakistan is a great thing,” Mahmood said.
However, according to Mahmood, there is no need to be panicked for the batting debacle because the wicket was tricky to score heavily.
“Everyone can do mistakes and as long as we learn from our mistakes its fine. If you see India’s batting its the best in the world and even they struggled. The wickets here are a bit difficult. As the tournament is progressing, yesterday’s wicket did not have much grass. So I think our players are confident.”
Pakistan will play to its strength –bowling—which led by Mohammad Amir looked formidable.
“Amir is a world class bowler the way he bowled before and even from the time he has comeback, it’s amazing,” he remarked “ Pakistan bowling is always a strength for us. The guys are working hard on their batting and skills.”
The pitch though has been the centre of debate, Mahmood doesn’t want to indulge him in criticising the pitch.
“ Normally you can see lot of scores above 150 160, it’s not easy in the pitches like these. Sometimes its good to check batsmen’s skills and technique as well. It’s alright but we can’t argue about the pitches. We have to play on whatever they produce as professionals, we have to learn and play on all kinds of pitches.”
With regards to Mustafizur Rahman’s injury, Mahmood said, “First of all I am really sad about his injury, he is not in the team, he was a great prospect for Bangladesh cricket he is not there unfortunately this is part and parcel of professional cricket. But our bowling is our strength and I’ll back my bowling all the way.”
