A court here on Monday sentenced a man to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment for throwing acid at a girl on December 8, 2000.
The convict is Ayes Ali, 35, a resident of Mollikpur village in Fenchuganj upazila of the district.
After examining the records and witnesses, Sylhet woman and child repression Judge Bimal Chandra Sikdar handed down the verdict on Monday afternoon. The court also fined him Tk 40,000.
According to prosecution, the convict threw acid at a girl of the Kutubpur village of the same upazila at night on December 8, 2000 for rejecting his love proposal, leaving her critically injured.
Later, a case was filed with Fenchuganj police station against Ayes Ali, the only accused, in connection with the acid attack.
