A baby girl whom her unwed mother had flung from the fourth floor of a building 25 days ago died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) yesterday. The baby had miraculously survived the fall on February 1. Wrapped in a quilt, she had landed on the rooftop of a shop after being thrown out of the fourth-floor window of an apartment on Bailey Road. Her mother worked there as a domestic help. But the baby had suffered injuries to her head and a leg. She was admitted to the special childcare unit of DMCH, where doctors and nurses named her the Baby of Beauty. But their best efforts went to vain. Dr Khawja Abdul Gafur, asst director of DMCH, told reporters that the baby breathed her last early in the afternoon. Her condition had worsened because of several problems, including fractures and infections. The doctors will conduct a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
