Norway team visits Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: A delegation from Kristiansand city of Norway led by its Mayor Harald Furre exchanged views with the Mayor-in-charge of Rajshahi City Corporation Nizam-ul- Azim at RCC Bhaban here yesterday, reports BSS.
The delegates were visiting Rajshahi as a part of Kristiansand-Rajshahi City Friendship committee members. The friendship between the two cities was established in 1979 to mark the date back to the War of Liberation when a Kristiansand photojournalist covered many incidents in Rajshahi and other regions. It is learnt, Kristiansand city authority took Rajshahi as a Sister City of Kristiansand. The delegation was apprised about the history, culture, economics, education system and activities of RCC by the Mayor (in charge) Nizam-ul-Azim.
As a part of memorabilia, the delegates of Kristiansand city presented a folding card bearing natural scenery of Norway to the Mayor. They also invited RCC Mayor to visit Kristiansand. The Kristiansand city delegation included special advisor to the mayor Aase Marthe Johansen Horrigmo, Dag Oulf Vige, artist Andre Fredy Tribbensee, Hans Petter Mjolund and Ole Martin Kyllo.  Kristiansand city Mayor Mayor Harald Furre told the meeting that a 100 feet by 10 feet mural featuring various aspects of Bangladesh's history and culture was unveiled by the then Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton at Kristiansand city in Norway on October 24, the United Nations Day, in 2011.
RCC built the mural at a cost of Tk 17.71 lakh as a gift of appreciation to Kristiansand Kommune (the city authority).
The Norwegian Mayor described the mural as a "generous gift". Tiles and 160 different colours were used in the mural projecting the Language Movement, historic March 7 speech, the four national leaders, freedom fighters, surrender of Pakistani army, Shaheed Minar, National Mausoleum and Jatiya Sangsad.
