In the past seven years, secondary level education in the country witnessed a sharp decrease in dropout rate as it stood at 40.29 per cent in 2015, reports BSS.
Student dropout rate at secondary level was 61.38 per cent in 2008 meaning over 21 per cent dropout fell in past seven years, according to the Bangladesh Education Statistics-2015, which was revealed at a function here yesterday.
The Bangladesh Education Statistics-2015 was disclosed at the function in the conference room of Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics (BANBEIS).
On the occasion, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid urged all officials and employees of relevant organisations to make their contribution in preparing a perfect education statistics. "It is vital to ensure participation of all to make a flawless education statistics," he added.
Nahid said Bangladesh Education Statistics-2015 has showed a significant progress in all indicators of education in the past seven years. "I hope this education statistics will contribute in boosting of qualitative improvement of education," he added.
Dropout rate of boys at secondary education was 56.61 per cent in 2008 while the figure of their female counterpart was 65.69 per cent in the same year, the education statistics added.
Secondary level education also saw faster decline in rate of male student with nearly 23 per cent in the past seven years, the latest government report said, adding decline in percentage of female student was around 20 during the same period.
Education Secretary Md Sohrab Hossain and senior officials of BANBEIS, among others, also addressed the function.
