Five Bangladeshi women returned home through Benapole check post on Wednesday night after serving three years’ jail term in an Indian prison.

The returnees were identified as Yeasmin Khatun,19, daughter of Hemayet Kazi of Terokhada area of Khulna, Sultana Nisa,18, daughter of Belal of Kamrangir Char of Dhaka, Juli khatun,17, daughter of Akram Fakir of Sadar upazila of Narail, Taslima Khatun,18, daughter of Ramjan Ali of Savar of Dhaka and Taslima Khatun,19, daughter of Moslim Miah of Rupganj area of Narayanganj.
Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Benapole check post immigration police, said the seven women had entered the Indian territory three years back without valid documents through Jessore border point in search of jobs.
Later, Indian police arrested them from Murshidabad in West Bengal.
A case was filed against them and an Indian court awarded them three years’ imprisonment each for crossing the border without valid documents.
The Indian government has returned them following repeated requests from the Home Ministry of Bangladesh through letters several times.
