Tushar, Mosaddek shape South Zone total

Prime Bank South Zone put on 262 against Islami Bank East Zone on the close of the Day-1 of the third round in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium (SKICS) in Cox’s Bazar yesterday.
Having elected to bat first, South Zone managed to muster 262 in their first innings before being all-out in 78.1 overs thanks to half centuries from Tushar Imran and Mosaddek Hossain. In reply, East Zone got to bat for two overs but made no runs before being called off day’s remaining game at 4:14 due to the insufficient light.
Abu Jayed, who was the toast of the East Zone, scalped the four wickets including the price wickets of Tushar Imran and Mosaddek Hossain. This right-handed medium fast bowler conceded 62 runs to take these four wickets. He made the first breakthrough for East Zone when he removed South Zone’s opener Fazle Mahmud, who fell for 17 having bowled.
Thereafter, Shahriar Nafees tried to handle the initial fuss and rotate the strike with Anamul Haque. But both batsmen walked back in the gulf of just two runs when South were struggling at 48-3.
Elsewhere, Walton Central Zone made 243-8 against BCB North Zone at stumps at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground in Cox’s Bazar.
Central Zone, opting to bat first, made a solid start when their openers-Shamsur Rahman and Rony Talukdar- struck 52-run for the opening stand. But the team could not carry the momentum as they lost their three top-order batsmen in the gap of four runs when they were sprawling at 55-3.
Since then, Tanvir Haider stitched a couple of useful partnerships including 71-run with Sharifullah for the sixth wicket stand. Although Tanvir chimed in with 33 Sharifullah missed his half-century as he fell four runs shy of half century. He clubbed half a dozen boundaries before being caught behind.
