‘Amar Bhashar Cholochchitra 1422’ kicks off at Dhaka University

On the occasion of International Mother Language Day and pay homage to the language martyrs, Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) has organised a weeklong film festival titled ‘Amar Bhashar Cholochchitro 1422’. With the slogan ‘Sustha Cholochchtra, Sustha Darshak’, the festival is screening a total of 21 films from February 23 to 29.
As a part of the festival, ‘Rajkahini’, a full length Indian Bangla feature film starring talented Bangladeshi actress Joya Ahsan in a lead role, will be screened today at 6pm at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium, University of Dhaka (DU).
Directed by Srijit Mukherji and produced by Shree Venkatesh Films of Kolkata, the film ‘Rajkahini’ has an ensemble cast containing eleven major female characters. The film has been produced based on a historic plot about the partition of Bengal. In 1947 August, the British passed a bill regarding the partition of Bengal. The movie primarily revolves around a Zamindar house in Rajshahi district of Bengal. The partition border would run through the middle of the house and how the residents of the house defend their freedom. Apart from Joya—who played as Rubina, popular actress Rituparna Sengupta of Kolkata, among others, acted in the film.
Other two films ‘Chokher Bali’ directed by Rituparno Ghosh and ‘Angaar’ by Wajed Ali will be screened at 11am and 3pm respectively at the same venue.
Earlier, on February 23, Dhaka University vice chancellor and moderator of Dhaka University Film Society Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the festival in the presence of director general of Bangladesh Film Archives Dr Mohammad Jahangir Hossain and language researcher Dr Sourav Sikder.
To note, DUFS has been arranging this flagship event to mark Amar Ekushey since 2002, while this festival has been continuing under the official name of ‘Amar Bhashar Cholochchitra’ since 2007.
